Anana teaches mime, storytelling and improvisation at John Abbott College. She has taught physical theatre at The School Of Stage Arts in Vordingborg, Denmark and has given mask workshops in Montreal for the past 20 years. Her approach to teaching is to develop an intimate understanding of what the students' core being is and to then guide the students into expressing their unique voices. This is done through body observation and written assignments as well as mask work. At John Abbott College she trains her students in a rigorous mime warm up, to encourage a wider and more precise gesticular vocabulary.
An actor is first and foremost a trained body, like a violin lying dormant and tuned, ready to express the notes that a score demands, so must an actor's instrument be ready to play the notes of any given script in a graceful, personal and expressive manner.
